About

I'm Matt Burgess - a follower of Christ, who also happens to do this for a living.

The professional

20 years of helping the right people find the right thing.

I'm Matt Burgess. I work as Head of Acquisition and Growth at a major digital publisher, leading strategy across search, paid media, and brand marketing. My career has been built on one core discipline: making sure the right message reaches the right people at the right time, and knowing how to measure whether it's working.

That means I think in terms of strategy before tactics. I start with who you're trying to reach, understand where they're looking, and build a plan that actually moves the numbers — not just activity for activity's sake.

I've spent 20 years in performance and brand marketing. I know what works, what doesn't, and how to tell the difference. And I bring that same discipline to every church I work with.

The ministry

I know the organised chaos of small churches.

I'm also a worship leader at Burleigh Church of Christ on the Gold Coast. I know what Saturday night prep looks like — the last-minute roster gaps, the printer that won't cooperate, the scramble to make Sunday work with the team and resources you actually have.

I also built a worship planning app that my team uses every week. Not because I wanted to start a tech company, but because I saw a problem and had the skills to help solve it. That's the same impulse behind foundonsunday.

I don't come to this work as a marketing consultant who read a book about churches. I come as someone who serves in ministry, who understands the rhythms and realities of church life, and who believes the skills God has given me in my career can serve his church.

Why churches

And so foundonsunday was born.

I kept noticing the same thing: churches faithfully preaching the gospel and serving their communities, but almost invisible online... and without the resources to do much about that.

And on the other side, real people searching for hope, for belonging, for a place where they can encounter the truth and life of Jesus — and not finding one nearby.

I wanted to use the experience that God has given me in my career to help bridge that gap. Not with hype or marketing jargon, but with the same strategic thinking that drives results in any well-run organisation — applied with genuine understanding of what ministry actually looks like.

foundonsunday exists to serve Australian churches. To help them get found by the people who need them. To help them communicate clearly who they are. And to bring the kind of strategic rigour to church outreach that these communities deserve but rarely have access to.

Based on the Gold Coast. Working with churches across Australia.
